league of extraordinary gentlemen 2

In this one, anyway.

Yeah, so what to say here.

2 has little action in terms of a team doing anything.

I guess because the world and characters have already been established so I can more easily ignore the things about them that I dislike. The characters get more intense. With Ini Edo, Mike Ezuruonye, Olu Jacobs, Livinus Nnochiri. I do not know if it was just this book specifically or I just lost interest in reading it. So much intricate and meaningful detail in the art . 2…, Billy Jensen's Favorite Fictional Citizen Detectives. I really was not expecting much after volume 1, but I already had it at home so I wondered if it might improve. This sequel to the fabulous first volume has a lot to love, but does drop the ball significantly.

My review for volume one is parallel to this volume. Ever.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol.

Ever. So Alan Moore hates women. I'm also very disappointed in Mina. O'Neill's artwork is as accomplished as ever, and Jekyll has an interesting scene, but Nemo is given nothing whatsoever to do, and the "clever" references to other famous literary characters seem perfunctory and pointless. Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2013. Half the book is a comic, and a rather morbid and ribald sense of humor pervades that half. Alan Moore is an English writer most famous for his influential work in comics, including the acclaimed graphic novels, (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen #2), La Ligue des Gentlemen Extraordinaires #3-4, Bram Stoker Award Nominee for Best Illustrated Narrative (2003), Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards for Best Limited Series (2003). It is a sequel to the original volume of the series and is mainly a retelling of The War of the Worlds . Does anyone feel that the Traveller's Almanac is more than just a ''entertaining'' add-on?

I read the first volume a couple months ago, and while it in no way comes close to the greatness of something like Watchmen, it was still a fun and enjoyable read. I don't understand the point of this one, either, though it's vaguely more interesting than the first volume. Very recommended, A mixed bag. Although the characters are in a different setting, they do not turn away from their original personalities as set forth by their authors. The opening was interesting and sparked my imagination but it was irritating that much of the early dialogue was rendered in "Martian," meaning symbols that couldn't be read. I loved the Victorian, Steampunk setting of the LXG vol 1 and thought it was a well-constructed, character-building adventure. Directed by Michael Jaja. What I had mistaken in the past as bitter social commentary was now revealed for what it was, misanthropic bile which had.

However, Alan Moore's seeming obsession with creating ancilliary documents as companion pieces to his stories is getting a bit tiresome. O'Neill's artwork is as accomplished as ever, and Jekyll has an interesting scene, but Nemo is given nothing whatsoever to do, and the "clever" refer.

THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, VOL 2, like its stellar predecessor, is a graphic novel and is most assuredly not a comic book intended for children.

Volume 2.......not so much. As for the main story, well, I suppose if you are a huge War of the Worlds fan then you will like this one fairly well because it follows a lot of that story rather closely adapting the characters/situations to fit a little better along the way. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Good artwork, but a surprisingly dull and meandering plot.

We’d love your help. Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2004. When I was sixteen, I was at a comic book convention in Chicago, waiting in line for the guest of honor's autograph- Frank Miller. It's too bad Alan Moore has never met a woman in his life, because the women he writes are laughably unreal. A stunning opening chapter whets the appetite, but thereafter the plot meanders in several directions at once, none of them satisfying.

For some reason or other they brought up Alan Moore and joked about how he was most likely sitting in a closet with a candle and a typewriter in a castle somewhere in England. But then when Hyde did exact his revenge, I was like "yup, didn't see that coming." 2. It had these great bits in it where Hyde only listens to Mina, and they have this lovely moment, and I was like AWWWW. Volume one of this graphic novel left me on the fence. What I had mistaken in the past as bitter social commentary was now revealed for what it was, misanthropic bile which had finally reached it's ugly culmination in this pathetic and vile work of fiction. I almost quit after the first few pages because I wasn't interested in the story that began there, if it was going to continue (sorry vague but trying not to be spoilery). The opening was interesting and sparked my imagination but it was irritating that much of the early dialogue was rendered in "Martian," meaning symbols that couldn't be read. Once I got the idea that it's basically a novel with pictures than a comic book with words it kind of killed the mood. This is one of those things that I sort of loved but will never, ever recommend to anyone.

", I don't really know what it was that compelled me to finish reading this book but when it was over all I was left with was a sick feeling in my stomach.

Once the invasion of earth began, there was quite a lot excitement as the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen were tested to their limits.

For starters, this one begins on Mars with some other Victorian era characters that are basically there as cameos and the Mars prologue adds almost nothing to the rest of the story beyond the amusing references. I certainly liked this part well enough that I might even have given it 4 stars. DC Database is a FANDOM Movies Community. The adds in the back that finish it off are bawdy. I just finished the Almanac. I appreciate the illustrations, the homage to classic fiction, and Alan Moore's talent for kickass scenes. It certainly tells different stories.

It did however give me a much clearer view of Moore's past works.

I've heard say that it continues the story of Mina and Allan and introduces Orlando, but is there anything in there that The Black Dossier doesn't cover? The nudity and sex scenes are stuff for immature readers....there is no sensuality or even eroticism, it just feels like "Hey look I can put a nude woman in this graphic novel and then I can have this guy have sex with her...he he he I am so cool. It was entertaining in its own way, but not really my taste. Alongside him were others like garth Ennis and Alex Ross who were doing signings as well. Framing the story around Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars, and H.G Well's War of the Worlds, the tropes of alien exploration are invoked and explored in the context of the League. The problem with this part was that there was just too much of it, with no descriptions or real details. I mostly got this one because I got the first volume and I like the atmosphere and attitude of the era there in.

Quite a disappointment after the richness, complexity and wit of volume one. Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2009. Put together a cast of Victorian all stars and have them do extraordinary things. Very good follow on story.

And even the part where Griffin attacks Mina was so heartbreaking and awful but wonderful because you knew Hyde was going to come back and save her.

A stunning opening chapter whets the appetite, but thereafter the plot meanders in several directions at once, none of them satisfying. As a story it is pretty edgy and dark-ish. I got through two pages of this drivel.

The members of the league (and writer Moore) seem more interested in internal frictions within the group than the threat they are facing. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
