IIRC Talzin's only feat in combat was, almost killing Dooku through ritual magic, if they're ten yards apart Maul is going to win. Not withstanding how TLJ turned out (potential ST spoilers). The only thing Mother Talzin is equal to Sidious in is Force powers, so Palpatine should win most of the time since he has more combat experience and is just generally a more capable fighter. Dooku was just a placeholder for Anakin. Sidious greater physical and Force reserves would further aid him in combat which makes the gap even bigger. @silver2467: I'd actually doubt either Dooku or Mace are around as skilled as Sidious in the technical realm. If that was all it was, then Mace, being the swordmaster that he is with an esoteric Force perception that enables him to see the fault lines and breaking points in events, should have been able to exploit a vulnerable spot in Talzin's approach and defeat her, but evidently, this didn't happen. © 2020 CBS Interactive Inc. Palpatine did beat her relatively quickly, but he'd beat Maul just the same, especially considering how swiftly he dispatched a rage amped Maul, and how he humiliated Maul in spars while holding back circa TPM.
Combatively, it gets even worse. I don’t think she ever really posed a risk because they have very different overall aims: * Sidious wants complete control over the galaxy. What if Count Dooku accepted Mother Talzin's offer to ditch Sidious and join. Standard gear, blood-lusted, and the fight is to the death. They have fought before and she was also able to hold her own against Darth Sidious; while his dueling skills were stronger, her magicks allowed her to defend herself against his Dark side powers, and it was the intervention of Dooku and Grievous that overcame her. When using her own weapon, she did well.
Maul without such amp is gonna lose as badly as Talzin 1v1. He straight up said that the Senate is under the control of the Sith, and then later stands and watches the clones being loaded up with Palpatine. Likewise, matching Sidious, another Yoda-tier, in power, is something else that Maul cannot do.
Yeah, that part of the story had me a bit confused. Talzin stomps. Grievous' CIS armies vs Maul's Mando armies a couple issues before that and Dooku vs Nightbrothers was much more fun to read.
@xenology: Besides possessing basic precognition, clairvoyance, and other danger senses through the Force common to any trained Force sensitive, Talzin can also teleport/dissolve into mists. However, if Talzin retreating counts as a victory for Sheev, I give it to him 8-9/10.
Doubting at Mace's saber skills seems like grasping at straws, Talzin can't be defeated in a saber duel or with blaster shot as well, and that should be the reason why Mace failed or why Sidious said ''those methods can't defeat a strong witch like that''.
If the RotS novel is to be trusted (and I have no idea if film novelizations are in the current canon or not), and ignoring all personal opinions about whether or not Palpatine intended to lose the duel, Sidious and Mace had a reached a place where there was "no wound taken on either side, not even the possibility of fatigue.
Her Force abilities are potent enough that they should be able to keep Palpatine at a distance, so dueling skills might not come into play. Son of Dathomir made it fairly obvious narratively that Talzin is more powerful than Maul.
Talzin reacted to Sidious(who's much faster than Maul) and moved in similar speeds with Mace Windu. User Info: ScrappyDingo. Yoda is superior to both of them, but the skill gap between Yoda and Dooku and Mace is marginal, not gaping.
The only area Maul matches her in at all is physical and sword combat, where he pretty much stomps, but he wouldn't get the chance to exercise that kind of advantage before Talzin assaults him with TK, lightning or some other sorcery. I highly doubt Sidious could do that against Talzin. They aren't far behind, considering their showings against Yoda, but the margin is still noticeable. Cookies help us deliver our Services. Once again, we could speculate about the possibility that Talzin could operate better in her own natural body than Dooku's or that Dooku's lightsaber is more difficult for her to use than the sword she manufactured with her magic, but as before, this would require us to read much more into the very brief duel that Talzin and Sidious had than there is to read into it. ROTFL. Even Palpatine does manage to close the gap or simply overpower Talzin, she can always just turn into a ghost and retreat.
