As time went by more and more of the game's population continually dropped off which put Gearbox in a spot causing them to make tough decisions regarding matchmaking due to increased queue times. Again, those that had these pieces were able to do well regardless of their skill simply due to these pieces being imbalanced. Battleborn Celebration Weekend May 17th-19th. I don’t think it’s any accident that Blizzard opened up their beta to the public the week that Battleborn went live. Certain legendary gear pieces are/were so overpowered that they completely ruin(ed) the game's balance. "Dead game" narrative - People would compare it to OW, and because it didn't have millions of people playing at once, it was practically defined as dead from launch. I fall in to camp three. With pretty much all of the earlier ones being just re-textures, it felt like far too much for so little.

The more experience players became frustrated with lesser skilled teammates or bored pub stomping while the lesser skilled players became frustrated getting pub stomped. I personally do throw a bit of the blame at the microtransactions. Back when they started, I’m sure they thought it was a good idea, but it wasn’t. Battleborn’s release date was set for February 9 2016. And, to me at least, that’s still unacceptable. I can't tell for certain but it seems like they had a rather big budget for Battleborn and had high hopes for it to last a while. It’s not. My Favorite NPC Lived, Thanks To System Mechanics, God Eater Resurrection: A Very Fantastic Value for $0, of the peak players of Battleborn on Steam for the last month. Battleborn Competitive Multiplayer Discussion poker.vriend (Hairy Callahan) 2016-06-30 19:19:57 UTC #1 What has happened to matchmaking? It’s the end of an era. This also ruined the experience for many because they were then forced to play game types they didn't wish to play.

I was a Smite player so the fact that this was a non-typical MOBA excited me.

I hope I’m overreacting or reading too much into it. A lacklustre loot system. Blizzard is a very cold entity, sometimes.

And if that’s true, it’s ridiculous. As for the skins themselves, they are stupidly expensive, in my mind. What exactly happened besides being up again Overwatch?

That's all fine, to each their own. All changes need to be recorded. That does not lead to a balanced multiplayer experience, which is the most important aspect of any successful, modern multiplayer game. Thanks for sticking through my ramblings. Give or take, half the character roster is locked out of the box. Ernest The place to discuss Ernest! Battleborn was clunky on my PC at the time, while Overwatch ran perfectly smooth from the beginning and I had a lot less deaths due to frame rate. But… at least Borderlands 2 is still going strong, almost six years in?

There is no coincidence that Overwatch had its open beta the same week Battleborn launched. The competition with Overwatch definitely didn't help, but at launch, Battleborn still had a healthy population. And things like this don’t help that image. This was another issue because these kinds of design struggles also affected the overall balance of the game.

TL;DR: To summarize everything thing up, it was a combination of poor marketing, improper labeling, too much RNG regarding the gear, poor design direction, poor balancing, poor decision making, then cut and running when it wasn't as successful as they had hoped. No harm, no foul, right? So what ended up happening is even reviewers would jump into the game not understanding how to play it. The cast, the characters, the world, the gameplay; all had me hooked from my first time playing. Your reason to stop playing is because of a simple animated porn post the CEO made? They were rushing the last stages of development so that it would come out around the same time as Overwatch, and this hurt it in a number of ways. The micro transactions were far to obviously just a means to try and plug the homes in a sinking ship.

Its too hard for me to imagine that anyone following Pitchford isn’t already decided about Battleborn- either having played and moved on, or is currently playing. I don’t know about that. Undesired content was released instead of fixing glaring flaws.

I find he makes questionable decisions often. Then they released not-Borderlands 3.

Honestly I think people blame external forces too much for this game's failure. Battleborn should have been much more polished at launch. At this point the first DLC hadn't come out. The marketing department fucked up something serious there. There’s no locked characters, no “hey, now buy the seasons pass!” No “you must reach level 8 before we unlock multiplayer”. A lot of people suspect the publisher forced a lot of dubious decisions, e.g. The impact on a multiplayer game of player numbers getting that low is that matchmaking stops working properly, and takes a very long time to find matches (and matches it does make start being suboptimal). That’s fine, except it was a 33% off sale, three weeks after launch. Not having certain pieces of gear simply means you cannot play a particular character as well as someone that does have certain gear pieces.

But, at the end of the day, Battleborn is only a game I want to love.

Much like the old Klingon story about a warrior standing in the path of a storm and challenging it, only to get killed by it because “a storm doesn’t respect a fool”, releasing near a Blizzard game is something of a fool’s errand. This was a terrible idea for a moba. Unfortunately competing with Overwatch was one of the main things that killed this game in my opinion. Pendles The place to discusssssss Pendles! Change ), You are commenting using your Facebook account. When i buy the season pass for BattleBorn, does it go for all of my accounts on PS4.

Every time I walked past an EB Games I was assaulted by ridiculous amounts of Battleborn posters, and my Facebook feed was flooded with ads for the game. Launch date was already pushed back, they couldn’t do it again. I'm glad I got to play it, I'm very happy this game was made, but damn am I sad it went like this.TLDR:Bad marketing, competing with Overwatch, a lack of polish in key areas, more questionable business choices, and the hate bandwagon. But, this has basically blown over. The most i mustered was kind of an eyeroll, OW did gain a whole lot of its population through sexual content in its game advertisements. Obviously had the game not been rushed and released later the game would have been in a better place to start with, but the people that liked the game still found it. The thing that really hammered it home, and I have to agree with many others on here about it, was the hate bandwagon. What needs to be looked at, is why the people that bought and liked the game, stopped playing it.

Player bases are now so fragmented; it’s literally impossible for every game to have 7 million players at launch. Last week Battleborn even tried lowering it’s $60USD price tag to $40USD, and offering a brand new hero for free as DLC. From what I could tell most people fell into one of two camps: I, like most people who want to defend this game, fell into the first category. The easiest answer is to say that this other game happened. The story hit a few small news sites. OW scalped BB on all important release windows. ( Log Out /

Unappealing PvP and a high skill cap for it. Blizzard is a very cold entity, sometimes. That all said, I want to stress that the personal tweets of the CEO of Gearbox, who I have no opinion regarding, should not eclipse the large and diverse team of creatives, coders, and human support that works on this game. Before I knew anything about Overwatch, I was super SUPER excited for this game. I think another big factor was how popular it became to hate on it, regardless of whether people understood what it was. This led to a lot of comparisons being drawn between it OW, and Paladins which caused it to loose out. Waiting for games - whether the que times were actually long, or they were just perceived as long, the playerbase that was initially established started leaving due to having to wait for matches. Actually it's not legendaries it's all shard generators I just looked at all of mine and they all do less than a half shard a second. Battleborn’s release date was set for February 9 2016. Don’t think the skins affected it, but the boosts probably did as they indirectly removed the “Double X” events. Your email address will not be published. When they went into the game not knowing anything about it, other then it was similar to OW they were disappointed when it wasn't. ( Log Out /

Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. None of this is meant to be hateful or even angry.
